About JEC > |
|
During 1982 and 1983 a number of engineering organizations formed a joint
council in order to assist these organizations to achieve their own
individual goals. The key activities of this organization can be summarized
as follows:
- Supporting participation by Members in programs to
encourage students to pursue engineering and other scientific careers.
- Disseminating information to those member organizations
that desire facts which may be used to identify students who could be
considered for academic scholarships.
- Producing and distributing a calendar of Member
activities.
- Developing resource information for program chairpersons
regarding speakers and topics of interest to the engineering community.
- Providing a forum for introducing and considering matters
of general interest to the engineering profession.
- Furthering the public welfare by identifying, making
known, and promoting local professional Member organizations as sources of
expertise to assist in the solution of public problems of an engineering
natures.
- Channeling or directing to the proper member
organization, or other technical sources in the absence of local membership
of a particular discipline, requests for technical information.
- Managing the preparation and distribution of an area wide
roster of individuals who are members of participating organizations of the
Joint Engineering Council.
- Encouraging high standards of Professional Ethics.
This new website is designed to capture many of those
early ideals of the organization. Since we are a volunteer organization, it
is the responsibility of each member organization to keep its information up
to date.
The annual engineers directory and the president’s dinner
are two responsibilities that that are still done the old fashioned way. We
have generally had 80-85% attendance at the president’s dinner. However, we
contract the directory publishing, and secure a small (typically $500) fee
each year. Not all member organizations are allowed by their national
organization to submit their member databases into a combined directory.
As part of our student outreach program, the JEC has
supported UMKC’s Center for Construction Excellence, Middle School Design
Build Competition the last few years in early March. We have hosted several
formats of teacher workshops and tours, as part of the SERVE (Science
Educators Request Volunteer Engineers).
