Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) >

JEC Frequently Asked Questions >
How can I become a member of the JEC?
Membership in the JEC is available to local engineering organizations including chapters, sections or other affiliates of regional, state, or national engineering organizations. Membership in JEC is awarded to organizations, not to individuals.

How are organizations represented in the JEC?
JEC consists of one Representative from each member organization. A Representative may represent more than one Member when duly appointed by each member organization.
When does the JEC meet?
JEC members typically meet on the 4th Monday of the month and as needed or for special functions.  Anyone can attend a meeting. Interested parties or other representatives are invited to voice their opinions or offer guidance to the group. Key meetings or functions include the following:

 - A budget approval meeting is usually held in January.

 - In March or April there is an Elected Officials Luncheon. Last year Kansas City, Kansas, Mayor Carol Marinovich was the guest speaker, and the year before that KCMO Mayor Kay Barnes was the guest speaker at the luncheon.

 - September normally brings the Presidents Dinner Meeting, which brings together the Presidents of each member organization.

 - Finally, in November a meeting is held to formally nominate JEC Officers for the December election.

Does the JEC publish a directory?
JEC publishes a Joint Engineering Council Directory annually, listing individual memberships of those organizations whose national chapters allow their information to be shared.
Can I view the JEC Directory online?
The JEC membership list cannot be posted electronically due to National Organization restrictions.
How do I obtain a printed JEC directory?
If your local organization does participate then you should be listed. Otherwise you are not eligible unless you are an officer. The publisher provides each JEC organization with five copies and the JEC with 10 extra copies.
Does the JEC accept corporate sponsorship for this website?
The JEC at this time does not have corporate sponsors for this website but may in the future.
What college scholarships are offered by the JEC?
The JEC does not offer any college scholarships, however we attempt to track and reference those local and national organizations that do.
What is the JEC's involvement in the Engineer's Week Luncheon?
The JEC is not responsible for the Engineer’s week luncheon in February. That luncheon is jointly hosted by the local chapters of KSPE and MSPE.
How does the JEC get its funding?
Each organization has a base fee of $50/year with additional funding of 15 cents per member residing and working in the seven-county metro area (Clay, Platte, Jackson, Cass, Johnson, Wyandotte, and Leavenworth).
